My Cave of Random-ness

First of all, let me say that I feel like I'm living in a cave right now. It has been VERY hot!! Temps have been in the 90's but the heat index has reached well over 100 this week...and it's been going on since Monday! BLAH is what I have to say about that. To keep cool, we have been staying indoors - which means that we keep our blinds closed to keep it cooler in the house as to not run the air conditioner bad all day long (it works great and our house doesn't get a ton of direct sunlight during the day). I usually don't keep any lights on during the day because my blinds and curtains are open...however, due to the crazy hot temps and having to keep things closed up I feel like I'm living in a cave!  It bugs me that I can't take Coleman outside just to play for a little bit in his pool, the sprinkler, use his little lawnmower, or use his cozy coupe (Thanks Uncle Cory and Aunt Tracey)! We have been careful not to venture out too many places as it's been so hot and I just don't want to expose Coleman to the heat while getting him in and out of a hot car. We have gone to my in-laws house just to get a change of scenery and we did go to a story time at Barnes and Nobel this week.

Enough of my complaining...even though it's been hot I have been thinking about how thankful I am that we have air conditioning and that we are blessed with so many other ways to stay cool. We have some great family friends who have given us unlimited access to their pool which we have taken advantage of twice already this week!

Do you miss the days of stopping the ice cream man outside your home and getting one of these?
These were my FAVORITE when I was growing up. Today I wouldn't even think about stopping the ice cream truck as it drives by with it's little songs...makes me nervous. Maybe my kind husband will get one for me one of these days....I did look on the truck that goes through out neighborhood and they carry my favorite frozen snow cone!!

We are getting ready to head off on another trip. This time we are going to Myrtle Beach, SC. I've never been there and am really looking forward to it. We are going to try and overnight drive (with the help of Justin's younger brother as we all know I could never stay awake during an overnight drive). We will be spending a week with his family in a condo and I'm excited that Justin and I might actually get some time to ourselves and his parents have already offered to watch Coleman one night =) YAY!

Coleman has been learning so many new things in the past few days. He is picking up on new things we are teaching him so quickly. He can now give us the sign for "more" and he also does our sign for "all done" and he says "all done". He learned how to do the sounds for a cow, fish, sheep, and he can waddle like a penguin. It's too cute!! He is growing up so fast.

Okay - so there you have the title of my post. I feel like I'm in a cave...and I had to update you with some random things going on around here.

12 month update

I know I'm 10 days past Coleman's 1st birthday...but we've been super busy with vacations, Coleman's birthday, a visit to my parents house, and now things are starting to settle back down. So here is the 12 month update...

Coleman took his first bike ride and seemed to like it. We didn't get a big reaction of loving it or hating it...but he seems to enjoy it. He has the cutest little helmet to wear and we usually try and shove a few toys in there for him to play with. My favorite spot to bike ride to is the shop right down the road from our house =) We've taken a couple trips already!! We let Coleman try some ice cream and when he wasn't allowed to have anymore he threw a fit....we just laughed.
Here's Coleman loving the plastic spoon from the ice cream shop

Coleman knows how to play peek-a-boo. Sometimes he'll play with me in the car using a blanket...but he loves to play by hiding behind a wall or door.

He also learned how to do "itsy bitsy spider" by moving his hands in a twisting motion. It's very cute. And just the past weekend he learned the motions to "down came the rain" as well as "washed the spider out". Now we just need to put them all together!

We also had Coleman's first haircut this month...check out THIS post to see how it went!

Another adorable trick mastered this past month is "Where's your tongue?". The picture says enough...

And finally....the biggest accomplishment this month is that we officially have a WALKER! Coleman was taking a few steps here and there...but on June 27th, he officially began walking! We were in Gatlinburg, TN on vacation and when we arrived to the condo (after many hours in the car) while unpacking Coleman decided to take his first long set of steps. He's been on the go ever since and is beginning to go faster each day! This past weekend he figured out how to get up to a standing position from sitting on the floor without using anything to help him up.

Not the best picture...but I promise...he can walk!

He's growing up so fast I'm trying to take in each moment with my precious baby boy. It's hard to believe that a year ago we were doing this....and now here we are with an adorable little boy with a spunky personality who is learning more everyday and bringing more joy to our lives that we could have ever imagined.

These two pictures were both taken on July 3. One last year 2010 and one this year 2011.

Coleman's 1st Birthday

I know I've been WAY overdue for a post since it's past Coleman's 1st birthday and I haven't yet given his 12 month update. For now...here are a few pics from his birthday party. We decided to keep it small and simple. We had it over at Justin's parents house...which was wonderful. Grilled burgers, hot dogs, and all family members who came brought a dish to pass....that was a huge help too! We also had a few friends stop by with their little ones which made it fun for Coleman to have some friends to play with.

Enough typing...the pictures will show how much fun we had =)

He DEVOURED his muffin in record time!

The lawn mower was one of the favorite toys - well, he saw it first and didn't want anything to do with other presents for a while.

Thanks Aunt Tracey and Uncle Cory for the Cozy Coupe! Can't wait to ride in it

 Opening presents

"Wow, I got a lot of stuff"
