I feel like my Coleman needs a blog post update. I've been meaning to do an 18 month update...which rolled around to him being 19 months, and now he's 19.5 months and about to be a BIG BROTHER! WOW...where did the time go? So while I should be busy getting things picked up around the house and working on my "to do" before baby #2 comes along....I just want to take a few minutes to write about how amazing my little man is.
To start off - here is a picture of a funny event that happened this morning. He was able to somehow pull off the suctioned bottom bowl of cereal off the table and as he did, it whipped right off and onto his face!! I busted out laughing so hard, Justin just turned around the looked, and Coleman sat there with a blank expression on his face. I think he was trying to figure out what just happened or wait for one of us to be upset that is spilled. When he started to get the pouty lip going - Justin and I were laughing and making a joke about how silly it was in hopes that he wouldn't have a meltdown. Eventually his half pouty lip turned to a huge grin and then he began saying "uh oh".
Coleman is very busy these days running around the house, looking out the window for birds, squirrels, and his daddy (as he waits for him to come home). He is busy playing in our newly finished basement (if you ask him if he wants to go play downstairs he says "run run run?"). Yes Coleman, we can do downstairs and "run run run". Having the HUGE open space for him is wonderful and I'm excited for Justin to make me some shelves for organizing all of his toys.
Coleman is also a repeating machine! He has so many new words in his vocabulary and is very good at repeating just about everything we say (this is good and bad). It's so neat to see him pick up on words so quickly and to use them at the right time. We've also been working on counting the last few weeks and he is very good at counting to 10! He does forget the one, but if we start by saying "one", he says "two", we say "three", he says "four", and so on. When we get to 10, he yells out TEN!!! I've also caught him playing with different toys that we have practiced counting with and he is busy counting them on his own...my smart little boy.
I'm eager (maybe not) to see how Coleman will adjust to being a big brother. We have been working with him from early on (since you could actually tell I had a baby in my tummy) about what is going to happen. We talk about the baby ALL THE TIME!! He knows there is a baby in my tummy. We feel him move and we give him kisses and hugs. If you ask Coleman what is going to happen when we bring the baby home, he will hold up 1 finger and say "stay". He also knows that he gets to hold the baby and help give him a bath. He knows how to work the bouncer for the baby. he knows where the baby is going to sleep. He knows the baby will eat from "mama" and not big boy food. We've picked out some toys for the baby already and put them in a special basket. We have been looking at the book I made of my pregnancy with Coleman and he LOVES looking at it and talking about how my belly got bigger and bigger and bigger. He sees the pages of me going to the Dr. to have the baby and pictures of him when he was born. For the most part, I think he does understand whats going on....but I don't think he's prepared for how much it's going to change his little world. It makes me a little sad for him, knowing that my attention will now be divided between two special boys. I'm trying to enjoy each minute these days playing with him on the floor, running errands, playing outside, and just enjoying his random hugs and kisses. I think he'll be a protective big brother - as he's already pretty protective of sharing me or having anyone else touch my belly. It will be interesting.
